ANTHONY PHILLIPS
ORIGINAL LEAD GUITARIST OF GENESIS
Anthony Edwin Phillips (born 23 December 1951) is an English musician and composer best known as the original lead guitarist of the rock band Genesis, performing with the group from 1967 to 1970. He left the band in July 1970, just before their rise to mainstream success, a move that has led some to refer to him as “the Pete Best of progressive rock” - though unlike Best, Phillips chose to leave on his own terms.
After departing Genesis, Phillips broadened his musical skills and launched a solo career. He released his debut solo album, The Geese & the Ghost, in 1977 and has continued to create music ever since. His work spans solo albums, film and television scores, artistic collaborations, and curated compilations of his recordings.
